Hi Roofus,
Just wondering which roofing material is the best for heating and insulation purposes? Sheet metal or tiles?
Thanks for your question James. It depends on a lot of factors, Iron will heat up sooner than tiles but you find that the iron roof will also cool down sooner than the tiles. If its insulation your concerned about, you need to get a form of insulation inside the roof, either wool or fibreglass. The membrane coating that we use James are also a form of insulation, please ring or email if you have any more questions, thanks, ROOFUS.
G\'day Roofus. Great website! I am in the process of building my house up in Gosford, NSW. There is a lot of bush around the property and I wanting to get your opinion on the fire safety. With the recent bushfires in the area, what in your opinion is safer in terms of fire resistance - material such as colorbond or traditional tiles?
Thank you for your question Grant, I have seen both materials in a fire situation and the result that I found, was the tiled roof which was only approx eight years old, looked reasonably ok but it actually shattered once walked on, even the area of the house which was not affected as much with fire, but the heat in the roof area was enough to damage all the tiles on the whole roof. The other house that I saw was a colorbond roof and even though the iron was discolored and had blisted it was resonably safe to walk on, and only the section of the house that was damaged had to be replaced. Also Grant if you have trees over hanging the house a tiled roof could cause a lot of maintenance with branches falling on the roof and breaking the tiles, at least with a iron roof in your situation it will be more durable. Having said this Grant I am sure you will agree that prevetion is the best measure, things like a good mesh style system over the gutters is a must in my opinion, I hope I have helped you with you question Grant, and hope you are never the victim of a bush fire. Roofus, what safety practices do enforce to ensure that your work environment is as safe as possible?
Well Ron thanks for this very important question. All our jobs are looked at closely and determined what safety requirements are needed, as all jobs are different, it all depends on what is required, whether a roofing harness is needed or scaffold around the building or even boom or scissor lifts (E.W.P) machines. Having said this we always train all our staff to think safety first and no short cuts are ever taken with safety. Thank you for your question. ROOFUS.

How to you re-point roof tiles?
well, what we do is first determine if we can just point the ridge caps or if they need re-bedding as well,If they only need re-pointing what we do is first clean off the moss and dirt, from the old cement work, then using a flexible pointing compound we then go over the old cement work. Using this material far out lasts the old method of using sand and cement, as it wont crack or fade. Thank you for your question.Alan Donovan.
